Task:

I had a younger sister,Michelle. But as a big brother,I rarely cared for her.

On a Sunday in March when I was 8,Easter came. As usual,my sister and I would search for the hidden baskets full candy and other things prepared for us. On that Easter morning,I got up early.

“Michelle!” I whispered to my sister, who was still sleeping in her bedroom. “Wake up. It's Easter. We have to go and find our baskets.” She rolled over in bed and finally got up. “Mom and Dad are still sleeping,” I warned her as we walked out into the kitchen. “If we're quiet,we can find our baskets without waking them up.”

It didn't take long for me to find my basket, which had candy, toys, etc. This basket was obviously mine because it contained the latest issue of my favorite magazine. My sister continued searching in every room while I dropped my basket off at the kitchen table and started separating candy into different categories. 20 minutes later,my sister told me,“I can’t find it. I looked all over. Can you help me?” I decided to help her not because I felt sorry for her but because I thought it was fun to find the missing basket.

We started searching through the cabinets(贮藏柜) where

my mom kept her pots and pans. Later, our parents were awake. Dad headed straight for the bathroom, while Mom walked out to make coffee. “Mom,I've found my basket,” I told her. She smiled and asked,“Where's yours,Michelle?”

That's when my six-year-old sister started to cry. “Let's keep looking,” Mom said, taking hold of my sister's hand. After searching the living room, they went to the closet(储藏室). there Michelle finally found her basket. But when she picked up her basket,we found everything in it had all been bitten and damaged by mice.

Paragraph 1:

Michelle dropped her basket on the floor, looking upset.

Paragraph 2:

Then I walked slowly into my sister's room with my basket.

Michelle dropped her basket on the floor, looking upset. Then she returned to her bedroom. “Just leave me alone,” I heard her voice as Mom followed her to the door. As I sat at the kitchen table reading my magazine and enjoying candy,I suddenly felt something I had never felt towards my sister before. I felt sad and sorry for her. So I dropped my magazine and put the rest of my candy back into my Easter basket.

Then I walked slowly into my sister's room with my basket. I found her crying quietly under her covers. “I'm sorry,Michelle,” I said. But she didn't respond. I left my basket beside her bed and got back into my bed to read my magazine. And then, through the thin plastic door between our rooms,I heard the weak sound of candy being unwrapped. I smiled, lay back on my pillow, and put on my headphones. That was the last time I ever saw my sister cry.

“I'm going to miss you so much,Poppy,” said the tall, thin teenager. He bent down to hug his old friend goodbye. He stood up,hugged his parents, and smiled, trying not to let his emotions(情绪) get the better of him.

His parents were not quite able to keep theirs under control. They had driven their son several hours out of town to the university where he would soon be living and studying. It was time to say goodbye for now at least. The family hugged and smiled through misty eyes and then laughed.

The boy lifted the last bag onto his shoulder, and flashed a bright smile. “I guess this is it,” he said. “I'll see you back home in a month, okay?” His parents nodded, and they watched as he walked out of sight into the crowds of hundreds of students and parents. The boy's mother turned to the dog,“Okay,Poppy, time to go back home.”

The house seemed quiet as a tomb without the boy living there. All that week,Poppy didn't seem interested in her dinner, her favorite toy,or even in her daily walk. Her owners were sad too,but they knew their son would be back to visit. Poppy didn't.

They offered the dog some of her favorite peanut butter treats. They even let her sit on the sofa, but the old girl just wasn't her usual cheerful self. Her owners started to get worried. “What should we do to cheer Poppy up?” asked Dad. “We've tried everything.”

“I have an idea, but it might be a little crazy,” smiled Mom. “Without anybody left in the house but us,this place could use a bit of fun. Let's get a little dog for Poppy.

It didn't take long before they walked through the front door carrying a bigbox. Poppy welcomed them home as usual but when she saw the box,she stopped. She put her nose on it. Her tail began wagging(摆动)ever so slowly, then faster as she caught the smell.

Then, she came back, trying to help the dog out of the box,but failed. Seeing this,Dad and Mom could not help laughing. Mom gently touched its head, picked it up from the box and put it on the floor. Much to the parents' relief and happiness, the two dogs seemed to be friends immediately, playing together happily. Poppy became as happy as before and it seemed that she had already forgotten her old friend—— the boy.

Paragraph2

A few weeks later, the boy arrived home from university. Seeing Poppy,he bent down to hug her hello. But unexpectedly,Poppy turned away and left. The boy was feeling extremely sorry about it when Poppy came running excitedly with a little dog. They jumped up and down cheerfully, their eyes sparkling with delight, barking and sniffing at his feet now and then. Knowing what had happened to Poppy when he was at university, the boy was greatly moved. He took the old girl and the little puppy in his arms, tears welling up in his eyes. Now he had two devoted friends.
